Even after the attempts to stop the spread of communism in the late 1940's, it still remained a problem for the US in the 1950's. In the 1952 Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected president, replacing Harry Truman. When elected he made a promise to end the Korean War, and wanted to continue to stop the spread of communism. To do this he introduced the Eisenhower Doctrine, during one of his speeches, which aimed to stop the spread of communism. Along with this, he introduced the Doctrine of Containment around the world. This included OAS, ANZUS, SEATO, and CENTO. Even with the large role the US played in attempting to stop the spread of communism, many people in America still feared a communist revolution, which lead to McCarthyism.
