The Maginot Line
Notes:
- want Germans to be crippled
- want reparation money
- want a defensive position against Germany
- build fortifications along the French/German boarder
- leads them into a false sense of security
Summary: The French wanted to cripple the Germans, as well as wanting the reparation money the Germans owed them. They wanted a defensive position, so they built fortifications along the French/German boarder, which led them to a false sense of security.
Subjective question: What would happen if they built a longer wall that covered the area that the Germans got through? Would the Germans get through?
Quote: "We could hardly dream of building a kind of Great Wall of France, which would in any case be far too costly. Instead we have foreseen powerful but flexible means of organizing defense, based on the dual principle of taking full advantage of the terrain and establishing a continuous line of fire everywhere." - Andre Maginot
