Technology played a very large part in the outcome of the second World War. There were many technological advances at this time, and countries aimed to have the most effective technology to help them in the war. The technological advances that were the most significant at this time was the weaponry, and electronics. There were many electronic advancements that significantly aided countries in the War. Technologies including sonar, and advances in communications were very useful, and made countries far more efficient and effective. The Navy and Air Forces in the world improved greatly, and produced some of the most effective war vehicles to this day. The US made Aircraft carrier was a devastating weapon, and led to the Americans success in the seas. Germany had made many advancements in their aircraft, which gave them an advantage over the Allies, and led to much success. Possibly the greatest technological advancements in the second World War was the Atomic bomb, and the Manhattan Project. This was the most dangerous weapon the world has ever seen, and had the power to destroy entire cities, as seen with Hiroshima, and Nagasaki . This was huge advancement in science, and changed warfare forever.

The second World War had a few significant turning points that had changed the war and were crucial for the Allies. There were several turning points all over the world, and all aided to the success for the Allies in WWII. The Battle of Stalingrad was the most significant turning point for the Allies in my opinion, and greatly helped them in the war. This battle shifted the momentum from the power of German, to Russia and the Allies. The Germans had broken the Non-Aggression Pact they had between the Soviets, and attacked the Caucasus region for the Oil fields. After they pushed the Russian forces back and taken much of the city of Stalingrad. Soon the Germans were surrounded by the Russians, and got trapped in the city. German Commander Von Poulus ordered his troops to fight to the death, but between January 31st, and February 2nd, 300,000 German troops had surrendered. This was a crucial battle for Russia and the Allies, because it put Germany on the defensive, and Russia pushed as far as Berlin.
"Wars are not won on evacuations", was a quote by Winston Churchill in World War 2, referring to the Dunkirk evacuation. In this event, the city of Dunkirk was surrounded by the Germans, which forced the British to order an evacuation. Although this was seen as a victory as many people were put out of harms way, Winston Churchill did not think it was the right thing to do. His quote "wars are not won on evacuations", it very true, and received much attention. It is true because although many people were saved by the evacuation, the Germans were not defeated, and it was not a true victory. The Germans still held the area, and nothing was gained for the British. This was more of a win for the Germans due to their successful strategies, and tactics which led to them taking over Dunkirk. Germany had used these war strategies throughout the war, which led to their success in the invasions of many countries. I agree with this quote because if countries retreat in war, they will lose territory to the enemy, who will always have the upper hand.
Saving Private Ryan is a film that takes place in France during World War II. After a bloody battle while storming the beaches of Normandy, a group of soldiers led by Captain John Miller, is given a new objective of rescuing a paratrooper who has lost all his brothers to the war. The soldiers traveled behind the German lines, and search hard to find Private Ryan. They soon found him in a small town defending a bridge with another group of soldiers. When Captain Miller informed him of the news, and asked him to come with them, he was shocked, but did not want to leave his fellow soldiers behind. Captain Miller and his group decided to stay and help the other soldiers defend the bridge. After the battle when the Germans attacked, there were few people who survived, and just before Captain Miller died he told Private Ryan to "earn it". I enjoyed watching this movie, and thought it was very good. It showed how harsh the war really was, and how hard the soldiers fought for their countries.
