Italy in Greece and Yugoslavia
Notes:
- Italians decide to try and establish themselves by attacking the Greeks
- They are unsuccessful
- Choose bad time of year in October
- Germans have to bail them out ‘Operation Marita’
- Also attack Yugoslavia with ‘Operation Punishment’
- Detrimental because it delays Operation Barbarossa, the attack on Russia
Summary: When the Italians decided to attack Greece they were unsuccessful, due to poor planning, and tactics. This made the Germans have to bail them out in Operation Marita, and it delays Operation Barbarossa.
Subjective question: If Italy had not failed and forced Germany to delay Operation Barbarossa, would the Germans be more successful in the War?
